About UWRChallenges

The UWRChallenges were launched to creatively address and develop innovative ideas that make a difference!

With the technological development and the emergence of many problems that need to be solved by using the technology of robots, marine technology, and artificial intelligence, such as monitoring and following-up water and sea pollution. As well as entertainment and marine tourism and the pursuit of fish and coral reefs. So, it was necessary to develop the skills of youth in the whole MENA region.

Mission

Provide technical challenges in underwater technologies to encourage the link between industry and Academia in the MENA region.

Vision

Providing the industry with a well-educated generation in the field of Underwater technologies.

What is Underwater Robotics?

Robotics is a branch of engineering concerned with the conception, design, manufacture, and operation of programmable machines capable of developing autonomy while performing a specific task. For decades, underwater robotics have been characterised by the development of manned water vehicles. However, due to the high cost of building and operating these vehicles in recent decades, researchers have developed robots or unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV), which have been optimised and used in a wide range of applications for the benefit and long-term development of the planet.

Unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) have grown in popularity since their inception in the 1950s and have been used for a variety of tasks and applications, ranging from bomb detection and recovery to sea exploration. Originally, these robots were primarily used for military and research purposes. However, they are now widely used in civils, and it is not uncommon to see them being used for recreation.

The UUVs have been identified mainly, they are subdivided into those that are remotely operated (ROV) and those that are autonomous (AUV).

Underwater Robotics Community

AUV Challenge

Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Challenge
AUV is an underwater robotics challenge that aims to push the applicants towards the latest technologies and develop their skills in underwater robotics by applying them in real-life simulated missions to provide modern solutions for the marine field using autonomous Underwater Vehicles.

ROV Challenge

Remotely Operated underwater Vehicle Challenge
Rov is an underwater robotics challenge that aims to teach and creatively apply skills to solve real-world problems and strengthen their critical thinking, collaboration, entrepreneurship, and innovation in marine science by building Remotely Operated underwater Vehicles

SeaPerch MENA Challenge

Seaperch MENA Challenge is a regional challenge that allows elementary, middle, and high-school students to construct a simple, remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV), from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe and other readily made materials.
Seaperch North Africa Challenge
Seaperch West Asia Challenge

MATE Egypt Regional ROV Compitition

MATE Egypt ROV Competition is an annual regional competition held in the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) for the interested undergrads in remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROV). As the ROVs perform specific underwater mission according to the rules and the competition guidelines. the competition was firstly launched in 2011 by Delta Square International LLC in association with AASTMT.

ERL Emergency Service Robots

ERL Emergency Service Robots is a civilian outdoor robotics competition, with a focus on realistic, multi-domain emergency response scenarios in urban environments. This year, a robotics team composed of land (UGV) and underwater robots (AUV) should be ready to intervene one underwater robot and up to 2 land robots are allowed in the rescue. The competition is Powered by the European Robotics League.
